The City of Bellefontaine processes and collects all City income taxes. The current tax rate is 1.6%. This rate went into effect on July 1, 2024. The tax rate prior to that date was 1.333%. The City also gives credit of .666% of any tax paid to another city.
Tax filing is mandatory for all residents 18 and over, including W2 wages, rental and farm income, lottery/gambling income, and also self-employment. Any business working in the City of Bellefontaine, including self-employed non-residents, contractors, subcontractors, and realtors, therapy, massage, beauticians, cosmetologists, etc., must also file a tax return with the City of Bellefontaine.
In 2016, Bellefontaine became a member of the Regional Income Tax Agency, known as "RITA". they assist in the administration and enforcement of our local Income Tax Ordinance #15-74A.
